Construction on Kerr Lake began in 1946 for
generating hydroelectric power, as well as fishing,
flood control, water supply and recreational
purposes, and ended in 1953.
The lake spans two states, North Carolina and Virginia, has a shoreline of 800 miles and covers almost 49,000 acres.
