The Roanoke River is 410 miles long, originating in
southern Virginia, snaking through the northeastern
part of North Carolina before emptying into the
Albermarle Sound. Along the way, it is also dammed
up to make several reservoirs, including Kerr Lake
and Gaston Lake.
