Constructed in the early 1960's by CP&L, or
Carolina Power and Light, Hyco, also known as
Carolina Power Lake, was designed to cool the steam
powered electric generator plant.
Hyco lake is 3,750 acres and has 120 miles of shoreline. The warm water discharge from the cooling towers on the plant keep the water in the lake at above average levels year-round.
