The points system scale starts at 40, and reduces by 2 for each place down. There are no extra points given for winning, big fish, etc. This offers a clear view of each anglers abilities throughout the season, and doesn't allow some guy to start halfway through, catch a few big fish, and become the champ. Points are used to determine Angler of the Year.

The weight system, which determines the anglers who go to the 'Six-Man Team' or Regionals, offers a somewhat skewed view of angler performance, as once could catch a few trophy fish in the early Spring, have a bad summer, and still come out ahead.
